FORMATIVE ASSESSMENT COURSE: MARGARET HERITAGE/NANCY GERZON: LINKS

LINKS

Dear Formative Assessment Course Participants,

What an amazing group you are!  I had such a good time working with you in our workshop!

I am looking forward to hearing about how the lesson you planned in the workshop went when you implemented it.

You might also want to try creating and implementing a few more lessons with learning goals and success criteria before our next workshop on March 27.

Below are the details of the online materials from the Oregon Department of Education Formative Assessment Course that I would like you to complete before our next workshop.

Module 2

2.6 Building Blocks

Watch the animation.

Think about what were the building blocks of the standard(s) that you addressed in your formative assessment lesson.

Module 3

3.1 Eliciting Evidence

Download the Video Reflection Guide for either the elementary or secondary video. Watch either the elementary or secondary video (of course, you are welcome to watch both). Pay close attention to how the teacher elicits evidence using questions, probes, observations, and opportunities for students to articulate (and even show) their thinking.  As you view the video, complete the relevant Video Reflection Guide. You will need to bring your completed Reflection Guide to workshop 2 in March.

3.8 eReader: Planning for Eliciting Evidence

Download and read the eReader, Planning for Eliciting Evidence of Learning.  Annotate the lesson with your responses to the questions on page 1. You will need to bring the annotated lesson to workshop 2.

Think about a lesson you just taught or the one you planned in the workshop. How does this lesson compare with the one you taught?

4.1 Three Things to do with Evidence

Watch the animation.

4.3 eReader: Quick Guide to the Deliberate Acts of Teaching

Download and read the eReader, Quick Guide to the Deliberate Acts of Teaching (DATs). Think about which DATs you use frequently in your lessons and why you use them?

4.4 Video Gallery and Notetaker

Download the video gallery Notetaker(Activity 4.5). Watch the example video (the link to Skip Counting with Collections) and review the example notes. The watch at least two videos, using  the Notetaker to make notes about the deliberate acts of teaching the teachers use in response to evidence. Respond to the question about what you might apply when you implement your next formative assessment lesson. You will need to bring your completed Notetaker to the next workshop.

4.8 Examples of Quality Feedback

View the video example of a teacher giving her student feedback: Ms. Lozano and Angie (Activity 4.10, p. 3). Reflect on the video and make notes about what struck you in the teacher/student interaction. You will need to bring your notes to the workshop.

Reflection Prompt:

Complete this reflection and bring to the next workshop. Select any aspect of formative assessment for your reflection.

I used to think…but now I think…

We will also be planning another lesson in the workshop so please bring standards you want to work from for an upcoming lesson or a lesson you have taught but would like to revise.

Best,

Margaret
