Educators often blame the lack of student engagement on their learning style or interest in the content. Actually, students drive their own engagement when they feel they have true agency over their own learning. This workshop will provide Special Education and Regular Education teachers with tools and strategies to develop self-direction in ALL students. Focusing on things that educators can really implement in their authentic settings, the discussions and activities will increase understanding of the foundational nature of self-direction to learning, the dependence of a sense of self on language and reflection from others, and encouraging student to self-monitor their growth, leading to a stronger confidence. Participants will leave with a Magic Wand to solve all problems!!

Participants will gain strategies to support all types of learners to improve in self-direction; Participant will gain understanding of the impact of language on students and their growth; Participants will learn how to help students use self-reflection to monitor and celebrate growth.
