Leaving to Learn:

How Out-of-School Learning Increases Student Engagement and Reduces Dropout Rates

By Elliot Washor and Charles Mojkowski
Discussion led by Carolyn Eastman

Leaving to Learn had me nodding and saying "yes!" throughout the entire book! This quote from the book's forward by Sir Ken Robinson sums it up for me: "To succeed as it has to, education must engage the curiosity, creativity, aptitudes, and passions of EVERY student." This book helps us think about how to do this in a public school setting.  I would highly encourage you to read the book ahead of time and come with all your questions for Elliot Washor. I'm so excited to have the author with us!

Just Ask Us:

Kids Speak Out on Student Engagement

By Heather Wolpert Gawron
Discussion led by Carolyn Eastman
In Just Ask Us, Heather Wolpert- Gawron uses student perspectives in her book on student engagement. She states at the end of the book: Without engagement, your students cannot absorb your content. Without engagement, your students will not be willing to go through the steps of the learning process. Without engagement, your students will not be on your side and you are a vital ally in their development.

Come learn about the 8 big pieces of student feedback that Heather focused on, giving each their own chapter and practical strategies for responding to how they would like to be engaged.
