S1-M Competency Achievement Challenges with Students who Learn Differently

Please come prepared with paper and pencils so that you can engage in the activities of the workshop.

Wednesday, July 15

Session 1

10:30 -- 12 (ET)

Green Special Education Blue Student-Centered and Personalized Learning

This presentation will focus on helping students who learn differently achieve competencies in and out of the regular education classroom. We will discuss barriers these children experience and how we can help them use strategies to overcome them, while they learn alongside their peers. We will also explore the teacher’s role in the student’s development of these strategies, as they work toward students accessing and using their own toolbox independently. Participants will be encouraged to be mindful of a particular student profile, who they can focus on, to help those students be more successful in the upcoming year.

Participants will increase understanding of the 4 functions of behavior and that behavior is communication. Participants will learn how teachers can help students who experience anxiety. Participants will gain strategies to help any student manage behaviors that interfere with their work towards demonstrating competencies.
