PLC 2020 Wednesday Access: S2-N Distributed Leadership in a Competency-Based Elementary School Access

S2-N Distributed Leadership in a Competency-Based Elementary School

Wednesday, July 15

Session 2

1 -- 2:30 (ET)

Leading a change to a competency-based learning system is no easy task. It takes both courage and a sustained commitment by a community of learners to see the process through. In this session, an elementary New Hampshire school leader who has been engaged in developing, deepening, and sustaining collaborative processes will share her leadership experiences, mistakes, and lessons learned. Participants will come to understand that to ensure success in a competency-based school, building administrators often turn to a distributed leadership model based on the Professional Learning Communities (PLC) structure.  Participants will leave the session with concrete information about their next steps in their own unique competency-based learning (CBL) journey. There will be ample time for discussion, networking, and sharing of best practices between participants.

Participants will learn how a distributed leadership model can best support a competency-based learning system; Participants will brainstorm the various “loose and tight” decisions that CBL-schools have to consider; Participants will reflect on their current reality and determine next steps.
