SHIFTS HAPPEN

New Opportunities for Implementing (or Transforming) CBE Systems

What are the most challenging shifts you’ve struggled with over the past few months - keeping students engaged, designing instruction and assessments, determining grades?  We’ve just experienced one the most impactful catalysts of change in public education. With change can also come new opportunities to transform your CBE system away from some of the still-lingering traditional approaches of the past.  The delivery of virtual learning shines a new light on how we can ensure equity, access, and authentic student-centered learning.  We’ll take you on a deep dive investigating three CBE shifts designed to promote deeper learning for all students: organizational shifts (e.g., leadership, policy); teaching-learning structures (e.g., assessment and grading practices); and student-centered classrooms (e.g., supports, feedback, student choice and voice). Throughout this presentation, you will have time to reflect with colleagues on current practices related to the core components of CBE design, share the shifts that are working effectively for you, and identify areas where there is still a need to employ new approaches.  We’ll model using a strategic process for your teams to continue your reflections and planning to guide your CBE transformation journey.
